New tools available to help protect against the threat of wildfire Posted on September 6, 2008Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers (CAPP) and Alberta Sustainable Resources Development (ASRD) are proud to announce the completion of the FireSmart Guidebook for The Oil and Gas Industry as well as the Best Management Practices (BMP) for Wildfire Prevention and Partners in Protection have been honoured with the opportunity to distribute both products. These products will be a valuable resource for the upstream industry in preventing wildfires, and to reduce the impact of catastrophic fires on industry infrastructure, operations, liability, personnel safety, and the environment.
Each year industrial activity ranks as third highest of all the human-caused wildfires in Alberta. By adopting and using the principles in the FireSmart Guidebook and Best Management Practices, industry can enhance their environmental stewardship and prevent the accidental start of future wildfires.
Using these publications can have many benefits to industry, including:
